Leadership / Resident Advisor Training

Caron offers training opportunities for the residence life staff, peer mentors, student athletes, or other campus leaders. The training experience can include the following topics:

Classroom or Large Group Presentations

Serving as a guest lecturer, a Caron Higher Education Specialist can provide basic drug and alcohol education on a variety of topics. Group presentations can be provided in the classroom or with a specific group on campus such as a fraternity, sorority, athletic group, club or other audience.

Alcohol Intervention Program (AIP) and Drug Intervention Program (DIP)

Utilizing the first “teachable moment” for many college students, Caron provides a supportive education intervention. As a component of an institution’s judicial sanction process, students are required to attend a class designed to educate them on the facts around high risk drinking, the cycle of addiction, legal and professional consequences, and addiction as a disease model. Students are encouraged to evaluate their strategies for success and to set goals for positive change.

Assessment / Consultation Services

Caron offers comprehensive behavioral health assessments for students who have been identified through the judicial affairs process after a serious drug and/or alcohol violation, or for the student who continues to violate policies for the second or third time. A trained Caron professional will provide an individual assessment with a recommendation as appropriate. Consultation and, as needed, intervention services are also available.

Services for Parents / Other Concerned Individuals

Caron’s Student Assistance Program can offer a wide range of services to parents. Parent orientation, health fairs, and parent weekends are great opportunities to provide needed information to parents related to communication around drug and alcohol issues, myths and facts, consequences of high risk use, supportive answers to difficult questions, and resources if a concern arises.

Faculty and Staff Services

Caron’s Student Assistance Department can provide the following services to faculty and staff members:
