The Next Step
The goal of this two-part program is to prepare college-bound high school seniors with information they need to make wise choices and take care of themselves while away at college. The first session of this program focuses on the educational, legal, social, and health risks associated with alcohol use and abuse on college campuses. The second session of the program imparts helpful tips on getting along with a roommate, identifying a support system, and taking care of their physical and emotional health while away from home. Program set-up is flexible, but works best with a maximum of 30 participants per session.
Brain Drain - Adolescents and Addiction: Why the Teen Brain is Vulnerable
Available in both a classroom or large group assembly format, this highly interactive, 45-60 minute presentation provides current, research-based information on various aspects of drug abuse and addiction, including neurobiology, behavioral components, and treatment. Participants learn the parts of the brain, the functions of these parts, and how the brain communicates with the rest of the body. Participants will also learn how drugs of abuse cause a number of negative effects on the body and brain, ranging from mild symptoms to addiction and how the brain of an adolescent is more susceptible to these negative effects.
The Blunt Facts on Marijuana Use
Recent studies have shown that young people’s use of marijuana has been increasing, leading many to deal with harsh repercussions. Through this highly interactive, 45-60 minute presentation, current, research-based information specifically on marijuana use, abuse and dependence will be imparted. Students will learn about the physical, mental, emotional, academic and legal risks that exist with marijuana use and understand the benefits of abstaining.
The Continuum of Chemical Dependency
This interactive 45 to 60 minute classroom presentation educates students about the choices a person can make regarding drug and alcohol use and how for some, the decision to use can progress to addiction. The focus of this session is on the potential consequences of substance abuse. This activity is followed by an immensely impactful experiential activity, in which students identify the most important aspects of their lives, and experience how the decision to use drugs and alcohol can cause them to lose those precious things.
Bullying Prevention
In an effort to assist schools in fostering an environment of safety and respect among students, Caron has created anti-bullying programs, designed for use in upper elementary and middle school classes and fine-tuned to address the specific issues that exist during these tumultuous years. These programs aim to complement and enhance any existing efforts in place at your school to address bullying and can consist of one to four, 45 minute classroom presentations.
Customized Drug Education Programs
The Student Assistance Program at Caron has an abundance of interactive activities designed to teach students about the potential consequences of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, as well as the cycle of addiction. Presentations aim to teach the facts while encouraging students to consider what they stand to lose by engaging in substance use, as well as the benefits they will gain when they resist pressures.
