Mission
To provide solution oriented alcohol, tobacco and other drug education, prevention and intervention services guiding students to healthy, productive living.
Vision
The leader in providing alcohol, tobacco and other drug education and prevention services for students- partnering with institutions, families, communities and other concerned organizations.
Values
We recognize that the use of alcohol and other drugs can impede the overall development of students meeting their full potential. Therefore, we operate under the following standards:
- We support the 21-year-old drinking age.
- We believe those of the legal drinking age should drink responsibly; for some that means not drinking at all.
- We believe in the medically appropriate use of prescribed and over-the-counter drugs and never the use of illicit substances.
- We believe in evidence-based practices by tracking outcomes.
- We believe in the importance of educational awareness, assessment and early intervention in combating the disease of addiction.
- We support those who are in recovery.
- We believe in the importance of the family’s role in educating youth about the negative consequences of drug and alcohol use and in the recovery process.
- We do not believe in scare tactics as a method to keep adolescents away from drugs and alcohol.

History
With the opening of Caron’s Adolescent Treatment Center in 1990, Caron began outreach to schools in Berks County, PA. In 1997, Caron’s SAP began its expansion to other counties in Pennsylvania with the addition of higher education services in 1998. Significant growth of our programs began in 2001 when we were able to expand our reach to MA, RI, NY, NJ, CT, MD, VA and Washington D.C.
In 2006, recognizing the need to address the specific developmental issues related to teen tobacco use, Caron developed our own adolescent tobacco cessation curriculum, Project CONNECT, and began a successful pilot study. We are currently near completion of a full experimental design research study which analyzes the effectiveness of the Project CONNCECT curriculum.
Our expansion has continued into Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida and Texas. In addition to our work in the United States, Caron has provided training and consultation to schools and agencies in Bermuda, England and Mexico.
